Contract Plant Rental have recently supplied a second Atlas material handler to leading demolition and recycling contractor Anglian Demolition and Asbestos Ltd.

The addition of an Atlas 250MH wheeled material handler comes off the back of the great service from their 350MH machine.

Anglian are a multi-facetted company focussed on the construction, demolition, and waste recycling sectors. Headquartered in Attleborough Norfolk, the company predominately operates across the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire for a wide range of private and Blue-Chip national companies. Successful, and constantly growing scaffolding, earthworks and asbestos divisions operate alongside the demolition and recycling business, and it is the desire to grow their in-house recycling capabilities that has seen the company expand their facility in Attenborough.

“We aim to recycle a minimum of 95% of the material our demolition operations produce on an annual basis.” Managing Director Lee Storer explains. “We have done this traditionally on site or by sending material to a variety of recycling companies. As we have steadily built up our own in-house abilities, we are realising that the careful and selective processing of ferrous and non-ferrous material will in fact increase its value to us, albeit with some considerable investment in upgrading our facilities.”

The investment in their in-house recycling operations saw the company replace their old material handler at the end of 2020 with a new 35 tonne Atlas 350MH from Contract Plant Rental. “We explored a number of options for a new crane.” Lee explains “Stuart Lambert sat down with us and talked us through the details of working with CPR and what they are able to offer us in the way of back up and service. It was refreshing to hear the level of detail Stuart was able to offer us for a single monthly fee for a new and fuel-efficient machine. In the few months since the first Atlas was delivered, we have been very impressed with the machine’s reliability, productivity and definitely the service we have had from CPR to the point at which we contacted them about an additional machine.”

The 350MH since its arrival has been kept busy loading the large shear to process incoming metals and loading the numerous bulk tippers leaving the yard daily with material. The second machine, a 25 tonne 250MH has been taken to assist in material sorting duties but predominately to load the large, tracked shredder with lightweight material. “Having the ability to shred lighter material allows us to fill outgoing vehicles far more efficiently resulting in us getting a higher value for each load.” Lee explains “The better we can process the material, the more we receive in return.”

Both Atlas material handlers have been added to the Anglian fleet on a four-year contract with CPR looking after everything except the jump hoses from dipper to grab. “They will even rebuild the tips on the grab within their monthly cost.” Lee comments “We will manage any hose repairs on the grab as we have our own facility in house for our demolition equipment. We simply cannot fault either the Atlas product or the service CPR offer. It has certainly made life easier for us.”
